Three Haunting Masterpieces: Stalker, The Revenant, and Gattaca
Lost innocence and human spirit...
Here in My Weekly Take, I write brief evaluations for each film to discuss why they are worth watching. Some may be ones I didn't enjoy, and I'll try to squeeze those in as well. These can be films that I've already seen, as well as films that have just been released in theaters.
Stalker / 1979 / Dir. Andrei Tarkovsky
Rewatching Tarkovsky’s timeless masterpiece Stalker reminded me once again how meticulously it is written, directed, edited, and shot. Every frame is like a painting, and the score by Eduard Artemyev not only enhances the film and its poetry, but it is also designed in a way to make the viewers wonder, think, and stir perhaps some meaningful conversations with each other. Stalker remains one of Tarkovsky’s most accomplished works and cinema’s most beautiful films. This is a film that every human on earth should watch at least once.
The Revenant / 2016 / Dir. Alejandro González Iñárritu
